چکیده

SiO2-ZrO2 sols have been prepared via acid catalysis using a commercial colloidal suspension of zirconia and two silica alkoxides; tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES). Suspensions with 10, 15 and 25-mol% of ZrO2 were prepared. The stability of the suspensions was followed by rheological measurements showing that the amount of water incorporated with the colloidal suspension is the factor that limits the maximum ZrO2 content. Coatings have been prepared by dipping using the suspensions up to 25-mol% ZrO2 onto glass-slides at different withdrawal rates. EPD process has been used to prepare coatings onto stainless steel AISI 304 using the suspension with 25-mol% ZrO2 at different pHs. The parameters associated with the EPD process (current density, electric field, potential and deposition time) have been evaluated. The critical thickness for a ZrO2 addition of 25-mol% was 0.8 μm and it increased for diminishing ZrO2 content. 8

Effect of rheology and processing parameters on the EPD coatings of basic sol-gel particulate sol

Homogeneous thick silica coatings were prepared onto metals substrates by Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) using particulate sol-gel sols. The synthesis of the sols was performed by mixing tetraethoxysilane and methyltriethoxysilane under basic catalysis. The synthesis, storage and processing conditions were optimised, correlating the rheological properties of the sols with EPD performance and ...

Sol-gel derived antireflective coating with controlled thickness and reflective index

Optical properties and structure of antireflective coatings (AR) deposited from hydrolysed TEOS sol have been characterized in detail. The influence of various parameters on the formation of colloidal silica antireflective coatings by the dip-coating technique has been investigated. For the characterization of colloidal silica films, the UV-visible spectroscopy, laser ellipsometry, and atomic f...

Nanosilica coating for bonding improvements to zirconia

Resin bonding to zirconia cannot be established from standard methods that are currently utilized in conventional silica-based dental ceramics. The solution-gelatin (sol-gel) process is a well developed silica-coating technique used to modify the surface of nonsilica-based ceramics. Here, we use this technique to improve resin bonding to zirconia, which we compared to zirconia surfaces treated ...

Non-Newtonian flow effects during spin coating large-area optical coatings with colloidal suspensions

Multilayer sol-gel optical high reflectors with greater than 99% reflection have been prepared on substrates up to 20 cm in diameter by spin coating silica/alumina colloidal suspensions. These coatings are radially nonuniform, owing to the extensive shear-thinning rheology of the high-index alumina suspension. To a large degree the film thickness nonuniformity can be compensated for by the refl...

Application of the Properties of Nano-Silica Gel Coatings: Modification of the Styrofoam Cup

The temperatures of standard glassware and ceramics are nearly impossible to tell just by sight. Therefore, burns from touching heated surfaces are common in the laboratory and in the kitchen. The sol-gel process is a safe method to create foam under ambient conditions. Adding different chemical compounds causes the foam to have varying physical and chemical characteristics. This project focuse...
